Vlastimil Válek was born in 1960 in Brno. He spent his childhood in Poštorná and Břeclav, where he graduated from the local grammar school. He then studied at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University, with an attestation in the field of radiodiagnostics. In 1985 he worked as a doctor at the University Hospital Brno–Bohunice, where he is currently leading the Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. His focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of tumours, himself a pioneer of certain methods. He publishes in important Czech and international medical journals and regularly lectures at prestigious congresses and universities abroad. He was elected chairman of the Czech Radiological Society of the Czech Medical Society of J. E. Purkyně for the period 2014 to 2017. Since 1993 he has also worked at the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University, where he carries out research and teaches future doctors. He holds the position of professor of radiology. At the same time, he is a member of several national and international professional organisations.

In 2010 he was elected a representative of Brno-Líšeň District as a nonpartisan for TOP 09. Subsequently in 2013 he joined TOP 09 and after the elections in 2014 he successfully defended his district representative seat. In the regional elections in 2012 he was elected a representative for the South Moravian Region. In the 2017 elections he was the leader of TOP 09 in the South Moravian Region and was elected a member of parliament. In November 2019 he was elected vice-chairman of TOP 09 and in January of 2021 also chairman of the TOP 09 parliamentary group. In the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in 2021 he defended his seat.

Vlastimil Válek is married and has four children. He lives in Brno, specifically Brno–Líšeň District. His hobbies include dulcimer music, choir singing, literature and Czech art.
